This house in the Tuscan Maremma has stood empty for decades. Once the property of the road maintenance company ANAS, it never had a garden to mention. And, naturally, it stands right on the road which the inhabitants kept up. Now in private hands, the house must be shielded from that road where, thankfully, few cars pass. And a sense of privacy must be created without detracting from the gorgeous vista to the south of farmlands and olive trees. The purchase of part of one of the neighbouring olive groves has provided room for the addition of a swimming pool: this pool area, and the pool itself, will be kept as low-key as possible to limit the impact on the landscape.
